Inside Murchison Bay Prison before the charges against him were dropped. Francis Ssuubi didn’t learn about this problem from the outside; he founded Wells of Hope from inside the very system it now serves.
Our purpose
We exist to restore dignity, hope and opportunity to children and families affected by incarceration through education, counseling and family reunification.
Mission
To address the needs of prisoners and their families, with great attention given to children with a parent in prison, through sustainable and compassionate programs.
Vision
A society where people, especially children affected by the criminal justice system, get justice and regeneration in their lives.
Wells of Hope brings these pieces together.
When incarceration disrupts a family, one solution is rarely enough. A child may need a place to learn. A caregiver may need a way to earn. A family may need counseling and support to stay connected. And people leaving prison need a real pathway back into the community.
Education
Wells of Hope Junior School, Hope High School Semuto, partner schools, tertiary placements, and trade skills in sewing, hairdressing, bakery and agriculture
Health
HIV testing and counselling, nutritional support, school nurses, medical camps, and one-to-one mental health therapy.
Psychosocial support
Individual and group counselling, facilitated prison visits, family reunification, the Wells of Hope Safe Home, and foster placement.
Economic empowerment
Trade skills, agribusiness support, financial literacy, and business coaching for caregivers and people leaving prison.
